Staff adjustment: Lawmakers want amendment on transfer to centre

Kathmandu, February 12

Some lawmakers of the ruling Nepal Communist Party and the main opposition Nepali Congress have demanded that the proposed civil service law get amended in order to ensure that staff going to local and provincial levels in the process of adjustment get a chance to get transferred to the central government.

The bill prepared by the government allows the the staff to get transferred from one local unit to another or from one province to another, but not to the central government.

However, the lawmakers have not argued that it was unjust, hence should be revised.

Yagya Bahadur Bogati, a member of the ruling party, says those filing the amendment proposal, however, have said the staff can be transferred only after five years of their posting at the local or provincial level.

Those filing separate amendment proposals are Bogati, Krishna Bhakta Pokharel, Amrita Thapa, Sujata Shakya, Aasha Kumari BK, Ganga Chaudhary and Lal Bahadur Thapa of the NCP and Dilendra Prasad Badu, Dila Sangraula and Ram Bahadur Bista of Nepali Congress among others.

Officials at the Bill Section in Federal Parliament Secretariat inform that the bill on federal civil service has received total 32 amendment proposals. Each of the proposals will be discussed at the concerned parliamentary committee now.
