NTA marks 21st anniversary

Kathmandu, March 18

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Baskota, has said that the role of Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) is highly significant in building ‘Digital Nepal’.

Speaking at a programme organised by the NTA to mark its 21st anniversary, the minister said the role of NTA was of high significance in terms of taking a leading role in infrastructure development and policy formulation in the context of the ‘Digital Nepal’ concept announced by the government.

He mentioned that the government is planning to open a separate infrastructure development company for the telecom sector and no telecom-related companies owned by the government should be weak under any circumstance.

“The government is preparing to launch its own satellite and the NTA will be given the responsibility for its operation until another law is formulated,” stated Baskota.

The minister further said that the country’s telecom authority has many opportunities and it should not remain silent when it needs to take action against those failing to complete NTA’s assigned tasks and finds any firm or person engaged in defrauding the people, government and the institution itself.

Briefing about NTA’s progress, its Acting Chairperson Purushottam Khanal, said NTA has always been working to make its services reliable and accessible in rural and urban areas, while sticking to the open market policy.
