Photo exhibition promoting sustainable development in Karnali begins

Kathmandu, March 17

Nepal River Conservation Trust (NRCT) has organised an exhibition of photos curated by a journalist and a photographer who were part of the 44-day-long scientific expedition which began in the headwaters of the Karnali River in Tibet/China, and passed through Nepal, to its confluence with the Ganges in India.

According to the trust, the major aim of the expedition was to collect data and to document outstanding socio-cultural and environmental values of the Karnali region. Through the exhibition, NRCT seeks to promote dialogue about sustainable development in the Karnali region, and the possibility of establishing a ‘Sacred River Corridor’ along the Karnali River.

The exhibition at Nepal Art Council features 50 of the most captivating pictures taken during the expedition. The curators Nabin Baral and Ramesh Bhushal travelled together to document the Karnali river with a team of scientists. They unanimously say, “This exhibition is not something to be missed.”

The exhibition was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of the Karnali Province, Min Bahadur Shahi on Saturday. The photos will be displayed till March 22, after which they will be exhibited in Surkhet, the capital of the Karnali province.
