64 receive permit after govt decides to re-open Malaysia for Nepali labourers

Kathmandu, April 12

Sixty-four people have received work permits from the Labour Office in the last four days after authorities implemented a government decision issue permits to labourers who have received confirmation from their prospective employers in Malaysia.

Though the government decided to allow Nepalis to work in Malaysia on March 31, the Labour Office started issuing permits only from April 8, said Devendra Karki director-general of the office.

“Nepali workers aspiring to go for Malaysia are heaving a sigh of relief after the government formally opened the process,” he said. Earlier, the government had stopped issuing work permits for Malaysia. As many as 7,500 workers have so far received confirmation letters from their prospective employers in Malaysia.
