ICC U-19 World Cup Asia Qualifers: Nepal start tournament with win over Singapore

Kathmandu, April 12

Nepal quashed Singapore in their first match of the ICC U-19 World Cup Asia Qualifers by 217 runs to register their first victory in the tournament.

Put to bat after losing the toss, Nepal put 282 runs on the board. Singapore could only muster 65 runs in reply.

Nepal’s skipper Rohit Paudel played a captain’s knock to score 95 runs for his team off 105 balls. He hit seven fours and one six during his stay at the crease. Rashid Khan made 48 and Kamal Singh Airee played a blitzkrieg inning to score 31 runs off 18 balls.

When Nepal returned with the ball, it was Pawan Sarraf who claimed three wickets. Surya Tamang and Kushal Malla claimed two wickets a piece.

The tournament, being played in Malaysia, features Kuwait, Nepal, Oman, Singapore and the UAE along with the home side. The team that finishes the tournament as the top side qualifies for the U-19 World Cup in South Africa in 2020.
