Nepal Army bars private media from covering President’s event

Kathmandu, April 23

Nepal Army has barred journalists from private media houses from covering an event in which President Bidya Devi Bhandari was present.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari inaugurated a new building at the Army Headquarters premises in Bhadrakali of Kathmandu on Tuesday. The Army, however, did not let private media journalists attend the event.

The Headquarters’ spokesperson Bigyan Dev Pandey claims the bar was not intentional. He, however, says the journalists were restricted as there was a limited space available for the journalists.

“We could let limited journalists participate. There are people from the government media,” he assures, “We will send you [private media] the news release by the evening.”

Total 400 personnel of the Army constructed the building in the span of 10 months. The National Reconstruction Authority Rs 3.44 billion for the project.

The seven storey building has total 430 rooms. The Army wants to operate total 47 offices from the building.
