PM residence hasn’t been bought or sold: Minister Baskota

Kathmandu, April 11

Communications Minister and government spokesperson Gokul Baskota has said that the land where the Prime Minister’s official residence has been built has not been sold to any person.

The Minister’s statement comes after some media outlets of Kathmandu revealed that the land covered by Lalita Niwas was transferred to various individuals’ names illegally.

But, Baskota clarified that the last where Lalita Niwas lies and the one where PM’s residence lies are adjacent, but different.

Minister Baskota informed that after a recommendation from the committee led by Sharada Prasad Trital, the government had blocked buying and selling of the Lalita Niwas land.

Speaking at his weekly press conference, he said, “The PM’s residence hasn’t been sold and never will be. The residence is not part of Lalita Niwas.”

Minister Baskota further added that the government had formed a committee which was looking into the matter in detail and that the government would punish everyone involved in the case.

“We will punish anyone who is involved. Whether they be from the ruling party or the opposition, they will be punished,” he said.
