Civil servants to get 15-25% raise in new budget announcement

Kathmandu, May 27

A good news for civil servants across the country–the government is increasing your monthly salary by 15 to 25 per cent. Those working at the lower level have a reason to be even happier as the proportion of your raise will be greater than the high officials’.

As Finance Minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada will announce the new budget this Wednesday, lower level civil servants will get a raise upto 25 per cent whereas high officials including chief secretary and ministerial secretaries will get the raise of around 15 per cent, a Finance Ministry official claims.

Currently, a civil servant at the lowest level gets Rs 18,400 a month. If it is raised by 25 per cent, their monthly pay will be Rs 23,000. Likewise, the chief secretary earns Rs 55,2000. If it is raised by 15 per cent, his salary will be Rs 63,480 a month.

It has been three years since the government increased the salary of its staff. The increment was equal, 25 cent, to all that time.
