Nepal Telecom launches new optical fibre project in three provinces

Kathmandu, May 20

Nepal Telecom, one of the biggest telecommunication service providers of the country, is launching a new project to lay optical fibres in hilly districts of provinces 1, 2 and 3.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will officially launch the project amidst a function organised in Galchhi of Dhading district this afternoon.

The 2,179 km optical fibre network will connect headquarters of the district which the Mid-Hill Highway will pass through.

A 96 core fibre will be laid along the highway whereas fibres with 48 core and 24 core capacities will be used to connect district headquarters and other cities respectively.

The Nepal Telecommunications Authority will provide budget for the project. The regulatory body and the service provider had signed an agreement in this regard around two and half years ago.

The NT will mobilise five companies from Nepal, Korea, China and Hong Kong for the project.
