Team of nine high-altitude climbers to look for missing Irishman on Everest

Kathmandu, May 22

A team of professional high-altitude climbers has assembled at Everest Base Camp to recover the body of Irishman Seamus Sean Lawless who has been missing since May 16.

Lawless, an assistant professor at Trinity College, Dublin, went missing near the Balcony area of the world’s highest mountain after descending from the summit. Fellow climbers say that Seamus slipped during the descent.

According to his expedition organiser Mingma Sherpa of Seven Summit Treks, a team of nine climbers led by Irish mountaineer Noel Hanna has been formed to begin a search and recovery operation above Camp IV on Mt Everest. Hanna was Lawless’ expedition leader.

“The team led by Hanna will leave for Camp IV tomorrow. He will be joined by Tashi Lakpa Sherpa and Temba Bhote,” said Sherpa.

Sherpa said that the mission was being carried out by his company in coordination with the Irish Government and Lawless’ family. In Ireland, a Gofundme page has also been set up to help search for missing Trinity College professor.
